Principal's Message

Dear Mustang Community,
Welcome back to a brand new school year! I hope you all had a restful and joyful summer break filled with wonderful moments. As we open our doors again, I am excited to see our halls come alive with curiosity, laughter, and learning.
This year, we will continue to grow together as a community that supports and inspires one another. Our dedicated teachers and staff are ready to guide every student toward their fullest potential in a safe and nurturing environment.
To make the most of this year, I want to highlight three important habits that will help every student succeed: regular on time daily attendance, daily reading for 20 mins, and completing homework/learning practice. Being present every day on time ensures students don’t miss valuable lessons and connections with their teachers and peers; students with excellent attendance demonstrate more success in schooling- plain and simple. Reading daily builds strong literacy skills that open doors to learning across all subjects. Completing homework reinforces what is learned in class and fosters responsibility and good study habits. All three important habits set students up for success.
As we are a Title 1 school, we’ve additional funds to support student learning. Our grade level teachers continue to participate in Engage Mathematics professional Development consultancy. For literacy, we’ve added Accelerated Reader to help guide students through their leveled reading growth. In complement to Accelerated Reader, we’ve added the companion program MyOn to give students access to a vast online leveled library 24/7 through any electronic device. Parents will be able to see reading growth and access to recommended leveled books to aid in reading development whenever, wherever. Additionally, Step Up to Writing will be our program approach to explicit structured writing.
Let’s work together to make this year full of strong academic achievements, kindness, and memorable experiences. Remember, every day is a new opportunity to learn something amazing!
Here’s to a fantastic year ahead — welcome back!
Warm regards,
Principal Rafael Martinez
